ABOUT AMICA

Amica Hunter (they/them) is a nonbinary, queer, multidisciplinary artist and performer who has been devising, performing, and producing independant original comedy shows since 2012. They grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico where, as a small child, they set up a stand on the street, not to sell lemonade, but to vend their hand-crafted sculpey Lawn Gnome Skulls to passerbys (the idea was that the gnomes have long pointy skulls, which is what keeps their hats in that iconic upright cone shape). Amica spent their adolescence vaulting (gymnastics on horseback), acting in school plays, painting, sculpting, swing dancing, and climbing trees.

In 2010 Amica moved to Portland, Oregon and promptly dropped out of college to attend clown school - a career move that no one advised, but that turned out to be the best decision they ever made. They attended the San Francisco Circus Center's Clown Conservatory Program under director Joe Dieffenbacher, and teachers Dan Griffiths and Nathaniel Justiniano, and while there Amica won the Peggy Ford and Paoli Lacy award for Young Female Clowns.

Amica went on to co-found the 20x award winning physical comedy duo, A Little Bit Off, which created and toured four full length shows around the US, Canada, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand from 2013 to 2022. In 2023 Amica’s first solo show, ANATOMICA: A Comedy About Meat, Bones & The Skin You're in, garnered several awards, a five star review, and a largely sold out tour. Amica is currently on a United States and Canadian tour of seaMAN, a new collaborative show co-created with friend Bruce Ryan Costella.

Back in Portland, OR the co-founder and producer of PDX’s annual queer horror theater festival - The Stage Fright Festival.  Amica also runs Funerals For Life, an immersive event service offering “fake funerals” to the living for birthday parties, etc.
